It takes about half an hour to walk from the car park at Grosmont to Beckhole and another half an hour or so to pick your way along the riverside footpath from Beckhole to this waterfall.
The conditions were overcast and perfect for waterfall photography but rain was in the air. I had no time to lose clambering over boulders and fallen trees to get a clear view of the fall. I hurried to set up the camera and tripod and deployed a polarising filter to reduce reflections and saturate the colour. I selected f11, focused and had time to make just one exposure before the heavens opened and I packed down again.
Thankfully I got it right first time. Knowing how to operate your camera and equipment instinctively takes lots of practice. At moments like this it is all worth it.
