When this holiday to Cornwall was booked I googled the area for photographic potential. Our nearest beach at Crackington Haven appeared to have good rock formations so I had the basic premise for this image in mind months before. I new that the sun would set out over the sea and fortunately my evening visit would coincide with a retreating tide.
That is how most of my photographs come to be. I have a sketchy mental image of how the land lies before I get there. I then chose a day of the holiday when the weather forecast lends itself to the location and a time of day to be there for the best chance of good light.
Although the camera sensor has picked out all the detail in this image it was almost too dark to see when this shot was taken at a quarter past ten on this summer evening. I composed and focused the lens earlier when it was light and then daren't touch it again as refocusing would have been all but impossible.
