Grey, rainy, miserable days might not be ideal for holidays in Scotland and you can expect to get your fair share but they do make for great conditions for waterfalls if you can keep the rain off of the lens. Contrast is lower and the colours are richer and with a little help from an HD filter exposures are longer creating motion blur. The softened water is a pleasing counterpoint to the hard rocks it flows around.
I entered a print of this image into a monthly competition at Faversham camera club some years ago during my short membership. I can't remember who the miserable judge was that night but he couldn't find a good thing to say about my image saying it was unimaginative and poor. Afterwards one of the senior members came up to me and said 'Don't take any notice, he doesn't know what he's talking about.'
Whenever I look back at this photograph I expect to see shortcomings with it now with the benefit of hindsight and more experience. But for me its has stood the test of time. I can honestly say that I still can't see anything wrong with it.
