One of my favourite photographers, David Noton was commissioned to take a photo of this castle for the Royal Mail. I love his image and thats what led me to find this same view of Harlech Castle. In fact most images you will find of this castle are taken from this point as it is the only viable place to photograph it from. David's photograph depicts the castle in beautiful sunlight against a brooding dark sky. On my visit conditions were less favourable and although I was there when late afternoon sun lit the castle, the light was harsh and face on rather than pleasant side lighting.
I decided to wait until after sundown when the floodlights would come on giving a different source of lighting. There comes a short moment half way between day and night when everything is in balance.
