I set the alarm early for this frosty visit to the shores of Derwent Water in the Lake District to catch the rising sun on the famous Catbells hills. I had wanted a mirror like reflection which I got and I also wanted a group of decent semi submerged stones in the foreground. There were only a few visible due to the height of the water at the tail end of winter. The only option was to find my own additional stones and place them into position in about a foot of water. With walking boots now saturated and frozen feet I waited for an hour or so for the sun to slowly rise.
Later back at the cottage in Borrowdale I had never been more grateful for a pair of dry socks and a bowl of hot porridge but its all worth it.
