We were on holiday in the Lake District during the first restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic. Staying in a Borrowdale holiday cottage we were without phone signals or contact with the outside world unless we put the TV on which we chose not to do. All restaurants and hotels were closed on the day we arrived so we knew things were starting to get serious but we didn't know on the day this photograph was taken that the whole country was now in lockdown and the Lake District National Park was now closed. That explained why we virtually had the place to ourselves.
I struggled to make anything work photographically this day because it was too fine. Unusual for the Lake District at any time of the year. For this image I waited for the sun to be diffused by cloud and controlled the bright sky with a dark grad filter and another soft inverted grad used to feather down the bright foreground.
