The thing about holidays in the Lake District is it can rain. And rain and rain and rain. This shot of Castlerigg Stone Circle was taken on such a holiday. The continuous rain had stopped for a few moments as I drove within a few miles of this landmark. I got there as quick as I could and chanced taking the camera out of the boot.
Unfortunately I wasn't the only one making the most of this rare window of opportunity and by the time I had waited for the holiday snappers to get there shots and get out of the way of my stone circle composition the weather closed in again and spots of rain began to fall. I accepted my fate and pulled the plug on my proposed shot. Then, just as I started heading back to the car a ray of sunlight burst through the storm clouds lighting the stones. I ran back towards the stones, composed a partial image cropping out the tourists and fired off two shots before the sun disappeared again for the rest of the week.
